Vital Statistics

The Town of Gravenhurst carries out the responsibilities of Vital Statistics in accordance with legislation. Detailed information may be obtained by logging on to the Office of the Registrar General’s at 1-800-461-2156.

Births - all births occurring within the boundaries of the Town of Gravenhurst are required to be registered with the Municipal Clerk within 30 days of the date of the birth. Births occurring at a hospital would be registered in the municipality in which the hospital is situated. Home births in Gravenhurst would be registered with the Clerk of the Town of Gravenhurst.

Birth Certificates - Application forms for birth certificates may be obtained at the Municipal Office or downloaded from the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services’ website.

Deaths - The Clerk’s Department registers all deaths that occur in Gravenhurst. Once the death is registered, documents are sent to the Office of the Registrar General in Thunder Bay. Any information regarding deaths must be obtained from the Office of the Registrar General.

Marriage Licences - The Clerk’s Department issues marriage licences providing all guidelines and criteria established by the Office of the Registrar General have been met. A marriage licence is valid anywhere in Ontario for three (3) months from the date of purchase. The fee for a marriage licence in Gravenhurst is $125.00. Applications are available at most municipal offices or an application form may be downloaded from the Ministry of Consumer and Business Services’ website.
