Beginning April 8, Davey Tree staff will be planting new trees in Gull Lake Rotary Park. Unfortunately, many trees were lost during the tornado in August of 2009. After consulting with a certified arborist, a plan has been put in place to replant several species of trees. Along with replacing White Pine, other trees such as Red Oak, Red Maple, Sugar Maple, White Birch and flowering Crab Apple, will be distributed among various areas within the park. Veridian Connections has made a generous donation of $7000.00 towards this project. Members of the public are also encouraged to make donations to the Tree Replacement program. All donors will be recognized on a plaque in the park, to be erected on a slab of white pine saved from a century-old tree lost during the storm. |

Have you got an open building permit??The Gravenhurst building department is currently archiving building permits that are 3 years and older, with no record of activity in 2009. As the property owner, please ensure that building inspections for permits on your property are carried out in a timely manner. Whether it was a minor permit to repair a deck or dock, a completion permit for construction that commenced prior to a permit being obtained or a major permit to construct a dwelling, a final inspection is always required. Outstanding permits may cause difficulties at the time of selling your property, obtaining mortgages, severances, or transferring the property. The fee to re-activate a an inactive permit is $150.00. If you had a contractor complete the work for you, but never received a final inspection report, the permit may still be open or inactive. Please give us a call at 687-3412, we will gladly advise you your permit status. If you have an open permit, with no inspections in the last 12 months, you may only need to request an extension on your permit based on your circumstances. You can also check your property on-line by inputting your roll number at www.gravenhurst.ca/bp. Your roll number can be found at the top of your tax bill. |

CORPORATION OF THE TOWN OF GRAVENHURST NOTICE OF PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE FOR COMPREHENSIVE ZONING BY-LAW UPDATE The Corporation of the Town of Gravenhurst is holding a Public Open House to share preliminary information and obtain public input with respect to the preparation of a Comprehensive Zoning By-law Update, which is currently being undertaken in accordance with Section 34 of the Planning Act. The Public Open House is scheduled for: Saturday, October 3, 2009 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Terry Fox Room, Centennial Centre 101 Centennial Dr Gravenhurst, ON PURPOSE OF COMPREHENSIVE ZONING BY-LAW UPDATE The Town of Gravenhurst recently initiated a work program to update its Comprehensive Zoning By-law. The Town’s current Zoning By-law, known as By-law 94-54, was adopted in 1994 and although it has been amended over time, there has not been a comprehensive review of the Zoning By-law since it was adopted. The objective for the Zoning By-law Update is to create a modern, efficient, comprehensive Zoning By-law that will: Implement and build upon the policies contained within the Town’s new Official Plan, approved in 2008; Conform to the policies of the District of Muskoka Official Plan; Be consistent with the Provincial Policy Statement; Reflect the aspirations of the Town’s residents; Incorporate best zoning practices; and, Update and digitize mapping. The Comprehensive Zoning By-law applies to all land within the Town of Gravenhurst and will regulate the development of land by stating how land can be used, and the required standards (e.g., lot size and dimensions, building size, parking requirements and setbacks from property lines and shorelines). PUBLIC OPEN HOUSE FORMAT The Public Open House is the first organized opportunity for the community to provide comment into the Comprehensive Zoning By-law Update process. The purpose of the Public Open House is to share background information gathered to date including existing zoning requirements and issues being considered and more importantly to obtain input from the public on these issues and any other zoning matters early in the process. Community members are welcome to drop into the Public Open House to understand the role of the Zoning By-law and review the background information. Town staff and consultants from PLANSCAPE INC. will be in attendance to discuss the update of the Comprehensive Zoning By-law. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION respecting the Comprehensive Zoning By-law Update can be obtained by visiting the Municipal Offices during regular office hours, or by contacting either of the Project Team members listed below: Nicholas Popovich, MCIP, RPP Manager of Development Services Town of Gravenhurst 190 Harvie Street Gravenhurst, ON P1P 1S9 Tel: (705) 687-3412 ext. 274 Fax: (705) 687-7016 E-mail:
