Arena ice time cancelled today, Centennial Centre open as warming facility

Due to the ongoing freezing rain and for the safety of staff and patrons, the Town of Gravenhurst is cancelling ice time at the Graeme Murray Arena today.

However, the Centennial Centre, at 101 Centennial Dr., will open at 12:30 p.m. today for people who need a place to warm up or charge devices.

The centre will be open until 8 p.m.

The town anticipates the centre will open for regular business hours on Monday, starting at 8 a.m.

People traveling on local roads today should use extreme caution and allow for extra time to reach destinations.

For road information, see 511 and Municipal 511.

Hydro crews continue efforts to restore power.

For power outage information, see the Elexicon Outage Map or the Hydro One Outage Map.

To report a downed power line, call 9-1-1.

Due to the current conditions in the community – freezing rain, fallen trees, and downed power lines – the town is not able to place sand or salt down on many rural routes.

The priority for sanding and salting is main arterial routes in the community.

Town staff and contractors are also busy clearing obstacles from roads.

Watch the town’s website and social media channels for further updates.
