Gravenhurst Centennial Centre reopens

The Centennial Centre reopened today following a weekend closure due to the snow load on the roof and a forecast that called for rain – a combination that could have caused a structural integrity issue at the facility and put public safety at risk.

“We inspected the facility this morning and are pleased to report that most of the snow load has now melted. As a result, there is no longer cause for concern,” Infrastructure Services director Andrew Stacey said. “We implemented the weekend closure out of an abundance of caution. Thankfully, our rooftop drainage system served its purpose. We are happy that regular operations at the centre have now resumed.”

About the Centennial Centre

The Centennial Centre includes the Graeme Murray Arena, the Terry Fox Auditorium, and the Gravenhurst YMCA. Located at 101 Centennial Dr., the centre is a hub for community activity, including hockey, swimming, and a variety of other programs and services.
