Gravenhurst declares significant weather event

The Town of Gravenhurst is experiencing a substantial snowfall that has caused disruption across the community.

Some roads in the municipality are snowed in and there are reports of abandoned vehicles.

Power outages are also reported along with downed trees and branches.

As a result, the town is declaring a significant weather event.

The declaration suspends the standard timelines to meet winter maintenance objectives.

Town staff are clearing snow from roads and additional resources have been called in to assist. Special thanks to the contractors who have offered their services.

If your road has not been cleared be assured that a plow truck will get there, however it might take longer than usual.

Town resources are now focused on south Gravenhurst.

Overall, clean-up operations might take 48 hours to complete.

Officials continue to monitor the situation and will take the appropriate steps required.

Residents are urged to remain at home and avoid driving unless travel is necessary.

The town thanks the community for its patience as we work through this situation.

If you are experiencing an emergency and require assistance, please dial 9-1-1.

Watch the town’s website and social media channels for further updates.

The town will provide its next update on Sunday, Dec. 1 at noon.
