Gravenhurst lifting significant weather event declaration

The Town of Gravenhurst is lifting its significant weather event declaration, effective noon today.

The town declared a significant weather event on March 29 due to the following forecasts and conditions impacting our ability to maintain our road corridors:

  • Freezing rain weather forecast
  • Several downed trees in the area
  • Local power outages

The declaration suspended the standard timelines to meet road maintenance objectives.

The declaration remained in place until today as a precautionary measure.

The District of Muskoka’s state of emergency declaration is still active.

The declaration encompasses the Town of Gravenhurst and other lower-tier municipalities in the district.

For state of emergency information, see the district’s website.

Additional information, including where to find warming centres, is available through the town’s storm resource directory.

Cleanup efforts continue

Meanwhile, the town continues with cleanup efforts.

Tuesday, the District of Muskoka announced a plan for curbside pickup of storm yard waste.

The district said storm yard waste collection will begin Monday, April 21 in areas most heavily impacted: Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes, and Bracebridge.

This program will collect storm yard waste from properties that regularly receive seasonal leaf and yard waste collection.

Learn more about the yard waste collection program.

As well, until April 30, the district is allowing property owners to drop off brush for free at all transfer stations (except Ridout and McLean).

See the district website for details.

The district says that second home property owners will have another opportunity to drop off brush at district transfer stations for free this summer.
