Significant weather event declaration will be lifted Thursday

On the heels of Monday’s announcement about the state of emergency ending in the Town of Gravenhurst, the town is pleased to report its significant weather event declaration will conclude at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 19.

The town declared a significant weather event on Saturday, Nov. 30 due to the substantial snowfall that was occurring across the municipality.

The declaration suspends the standard timelines to meet winter maintenance objectives and it remained in place as a precautionary measure following the end of the state of emergency.

In related matters, Councillor Randy Jorgensen, deputy mayor, issued a statement on behalf of council thanking Mayor Heidi Lorenz for her leadership during the emergency.

“I want to thank Mayor Lorenz for her leadership and hard work on the town’s Emergency Control Group.

“Mayor Lorenz worked around the clock with other control group team members to ensure the town had the resources required to manage the emergency and bring it to a successful conclusion.

“The mayor’s efforts are a testament to her ongoing and longstanding commitment to our community,” Jorgensen said.
