Significant weather event UPDATE: Feb. 18, 2025

The Town of Gravenhurst declared a Significant Weather Event on Feb, 14, 2025. This declaration suspends the standard timelines to meet winter maintenance objectives. This is due to the high snowbanks along municipal roads. These banks, which narrowed many roads, will take approximately two weeks to clear.

Due to the recent snowfall, regular winter maintenance operations, snow plowing and sidewalk plowing, will continue while snowbank cleanup takes place. All of our crew members and contractors have been addressing the roads/sidewalks all long weekend and will continue to do so this week.

At this time, we are conducting snow removal in various cul-de-sacs throughout the Town of Gravenhurst and contractors will begin snow removal along roads in the coming days. Once specific locations are available, we will update the public. Reminder to ensure your vehicle, while parked in your driveway, does not encroach on the road allowance as snow removal takes place. Allowing the end/front of a vehicle to stick out into the roadway or onto the road allowance, will delay snow removal and possibility risk damage to your vehicle.

Please remember that Snowbanks are not safe for children to play on or around. Do not climb or tunnel into these banks. This is unsafe to both the individuals playing on the banks and the vehicle operators. This includes snowbanks and snow storage in municipal parking lots.

Because roads are narrower than usual in most of Gravenhurst, the Town is asking motorists and pedestrians to use extra caution when traveling throughout the community. Drive according to weather and road conditions.

Road width expansion activities (high wing push back of snowbanks) have already begun in the rural areas and will continue as resources allow.

We appreciate everyone’s kind words, support and patience as we address the high volume of snow we have received this winter season.
