The Gravenhurst Opera House has two distinct spaces available for rent. Our Main Stage is a 305 seat theatre, fully equipped with up to date sound and lighting technology, excellent acoustics, versatility and warmth. Trillium Court, our banquet and reception space is equipped with bar facilities and offers many different seating styles, for up to 150 people. Both areas are unique and offer traditional, old-fashioned charm that's hard not to fall in love with! Choose the Opera House to host your next concert, meeting or celebration of any kind.

We are a fully accessible facility with a dedicated wheelchair seating area, assisted hearing devices, barrier free restroom facilities, and an elevator to theatre and stage levels.

Trillium Court can host up to 150 people standing, or 80 banquet-style. Totalling 1,500 sq. ft. with a fully licenced bar, this versatile space is perfectly equipped to handle your conference, business meeting, wedding reception or private function. Originally built in 1901 as the Town Hall and a community gathering place, the Opera House is a historical landmark. The beautiful wood architecture, original theatre seats, stunning chandeliers from France, stained glass windows and rich history all play part in making the Opera House a cornerstone of Gravenhurst's arts, culture and heritage.

Over the decades, we have served as host to a wide variety of events and functions; housing everything from criminal court proceedings to war rallies, art exhibits, weddings and even Santa Claus!

Frequently Asked Questions For Renters

Find a full list of rental fees. All rentals are subject to HST. A reserved date is considered tentative until the signed contract and deposit are received.

The Theatre requires a non-refundable deposit of 50%. This deposit is credited toward the final settlement.

We are a licensed venue; therefore, all alcohol is to be served under our Liquor License. We do not allow Special Occasion Permits, or a renter, to bring in their own wine or alcohol.

We have 3 dressing rooms, each equipped with a full wall of mirrors, excellent lighting, washrooms and showers.

The renter agrees to read the fire safety plan for the rental facility and communicate this information to the staff or guests during the function. Open flames are not permitted. All exits must be kept free and clear from obstructions at all times. Maximum attendance at the facilities will be governed by the Fire Regulations in the Township as specified: 320 persons in the Theatre and 150 persons in the Trillium Court.

Absolutely no pyrotechnics or open flames are permitted at the Gravenhurst Opera House, per fire regulations set out by the Municipal Fire Inspector, as per the Ontario Fire Code, section 2, 4.4, 1 (1).

Renters must carry valid insurance naming the Gravenhurst Opera House as an additional insured in the amount of $2 million. Proof of said insurance, in the form of an Insurance Certificate, must be submitted prior to the date of the specified event.

The renter is responsible for set up, take down and storing of chairs and tables in the appropriate storage area. The renter is responsible for returning the premises back to the general condition of cleanliness and repair to which it was found. For rentals that include any type of food service, a 25% service charge will apply to the rental fee for dry-cleaning linens and general clean-up. Where additional cleaning of the premises is deemed to be necessary, the renter agrees to pay the cleaning charges as determined by the Town of Gravenhurst.

The Technical Supervisor has the final approval of all equipment, effects and staging. A 1 hour break for lunch or dinner for all Technical staff is required. A meal break must be scheduled after a maximum of 5 hours worked. If a meal break is missed the renter will be charged up to $35 per technician.

The Theatre has a loading dock off of Sharpe Street. Load-in is easy from the street level directly to the stage and dressing rooms.

Only authorized technical or operation staff are permitted to access the Technical Deck. All persons must have a valid Fall Arrest certificate, and proof of such must be provided to the Theatre in advance.

Rigging of all signs, set pieces, etc, are to be done by the theatre technicians only.

The Opera House is owned and operated by the Town of Gravenhurst under the direction of the Recreation, Arts & Culture Division and continues to host concerts, comedians, live theatre performances and private functions year-round.
